Can you help? Appeal for evidence of community use - the Pitch & Putt field, Johnstown Road
Residents may be aware that an application has been made to register ownership of the green space on Johnstown Road, locally known as the Pitch & Putt field, through a legal process known as adverse possession.
To support the case that this is in fact a local community space and should be retained and put to use as such, the JRA are gathering evidence of how the site has been used over roughly the past 30 years, for example as a pitch and putt facility, by the Scouts or for any other community, recreational or public activity.
What we are looking for:
Photographs (ideally dated or with rough indication of when they were taken)
Newsletters, flyers, programmes or notices for events held there
Correspondence, records or minutes referring to its use
News clippings, planning documents or other written material
Any other dated or documentary record of activity on the site
One important point
We know many residents have memories or either using the pitch & putt facilities or indeed or being involved in the previous organisations that had been granted use of this land. However, for evidence to carry weight in this process evidence must be be documented (a photo, written record, dated material etc) rather than recollection alone. Personal memories, while appreciated are unfortuntaly not sufficient on their own.
How to share
Please send scans or photos or any material to the JRA at johnstownresidentsassoc@gmail.com by Tuesday 1 September 2026.
Thank you for your help,
