Leaf Mould Composting - Johnstown Avenue Green
We're delighted to let residents know that the Johnstown Residents' Association has arranged for leaf mould composting cages to be installed on the green at Johnstown Avenue, as part of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's Leaf Mould Programme. The cages are now in place.
How you can get involved
Over the next two months, the JRA will be organising a couple of “leaf days” when residents can bring along bags of clean, wet leaves gathered in the area and add them to the cages. We'll share dates and times here and on our noticeboards closer to the time.
A few pointers when collecting:
Leaves only, please: no twigs, litter, grass cuttings or garden waste.
Wet leaves break down best, so there's no need to dry them out.
Keep leaves in bags until the collection day so we can check them before they go in.
Left to nature, the leaves will slowly break down over the next two to three years into rich leaf mould. Once it's ready, we hope to use it around the community's green spaces and share it with residents for their own gardens.
It's a simple, sustainable way to turn our autumn leaves into something valuable for the whole neighbourhood.
